This article is the final in the DiceLoaders look at the statistics of the main summer football leagues for this year. We look at the goals scored, clean sheets, fixtures where both teams score, corners, over 0.5 goals along with analysing the statistics on the over 1.5, over 2.5 and over 3.5 goal markets.
The Chinese Super League runs from April through to November, so it’s great interest when the main European seasons are having a break. It is one of the five main domestic summer leagues the DiceLoader club follows (in addition to our many winter season leagues). The DiceLoader club loads in thousands of data points to generate large sets of statistics and data to feed into our algorithms. Members of the site enjoy detailed in-depth statistics alongside trained algorithm generated predictions for all fixtures in the summer leagues within the site.
This article will do a high level analysis of the Chinese Super League using the statistics from 2022 and comparing it to the main 20 domestic football leagues in the world.
Firstly, we’ll look at goals scored.
For the 2022 season, the Chinese Super League had an average of 2.86 goals per game. This is an above average amount of goals per game when comparing it to the world’s top 20, and it places the Chinese Super League with the sixth highest average across the world’s top 20 leagues. It averages at 0.31 less per game than the top scorers in the German Bundesliga One (3.17) but 0.52 higher than the lowest in the EFL League Two (2.34).
So are there any trends to how these goals manifest themselves within the games? Do we have infrequent high scoring games or a steady stream of average scoring games? Looking at the Chinese Super League averages for games over 0.5 goals per game; in 2022 this occurred in 93% of their fixtures. This is the joint ninth highest across the 20 leagues. For games with over 1.5 goals, this occurred in 79% of the 2022 fixtures. This is the fourth highest across the 20 leagues so would support a higher than average amount of goals per game across the season. For over 2.5 goals per game, in 2022 this took place in 56% of the fixtures, which is the joint sixth highest across the 20 leagues. And finally for games over 3.5 goals scored, we had 29% of fixtures in 2022 for the Chinese Super League where this happened. 29% ranks it the joint ninth in the top 20 leagues. From this analysis the Chinese Super League was strong for games where either two or three goals were scored on average in 2022. Over three goals per game seems to be steady if not abnormally high when compared to other leagues.
For keeping clean sheets, how did the Chinese Super League fare in 2022? A team kept a clean sheet in 29% of their fixtures when comparing the data across the whole league for 2022. This is the eight highest average across the world’s top 20 leagues. Nothing extraordinary I would say.
And what about fixtures where both teams scored? In 2022, both teams scored in 48% of the fixtures in the Chinese Super League regular season. This is the thirteenth highest average when compared with the top 20 world domestic leagues, and this is quite surprisingly low.
Lastly we’ll look at the match outcomes. Does the Chinese Super League show any trends in regard to home win, away win and draw percentages when comparing it to the worlds’ top 20 domestic leagues? Home wins happened in 43% of the 2022 season fixtures. Away wins 37% and Draws 20%. What is noticeable from these stats is that at 37% that is the highest rate of Away wins for all of the top 20 domestic leagues in the world. It is 4% higher than the next placed leagues (the Portugese Primeira Liga and the French Ligue 1). In a tightly congested statistic, it is 11% higher than the league with the lowest average of Away wins, which is the US MLS with 26%. The Home win average puts it a joint 15th when comparing to the world top 20 leagues, and the Draw average puts it 18th. If we are to go by the 2022 season statistics, it is interesting to see that the Chinese Super League is very good for Away wins, and they don’t like to draw.
Finally we’ll look at corners. Again, another interesting trend is found here. With an average of 8.54 corners per game for the 2022 season, this means the Chinese Super League has the second lowest average corners per game when compared to the world’s top 20 domestic leagues. Useful information.
